The Empathy Mapping Canvas is used to document and organize insights from empathy interviews with a specific participant. It helps teams capture what a person says, thinks, does, and feels in order to build a deeper understanding of their experiences, perspectives, and needs.

How to use this resource
Identify the participant by completing the Person section at the center of the canvas.
After conducting an empathy interview, record insights in each section of the canvas.
In the Says section, capture direct quotes, surprising statements, and notable opinions shared by the participant.
In the Thinks section, document what seems to matter most to the participant, including priorities, concerns, and insights they expressed.
In the Does section, note the participant’s actions, behaviors, tasks, and role.
In the Feels section, record the emotions selected by the participant from the Emotions List, including context for each emotion.
Review the completed canvas to identify patterns, needs, and opportunities for further exploration
